Empowering the next generation to think circular!

How do you teach sustainability to the next generation in a way that sticks?

For One Circle, the answer is simple: make it fun, make it practical, and make it theirs.

On April 15, 2025, One Circle launched its first awareness event at ElectroMisr Applied Technology School in Al Salam, Cairo. An exciting step in a growing journey to embed circular economy principles into young minds through active learning.

The event aimed to break down the often-complex concept of the circular economy into real, relatable moments. Through a specially designed game titled “Spin the Wheel”, 25 students between the ages of 15 and 16 were engaged in a dynamic challenge where learning was disguised as play.

Each spin of the wheel presented scenarios and questions linked to real-world sustainability issues, prompting discussion and sparking curiosity. Categories like “Loop or Lose” and “What Happens Next?” encouraged students to think critically about waste, reuse, and long-term environmental impact.

The event was brought to life by a dedicated team of facilitators; it was supported by E-Tadweer, O2 Media, and the IECD team, whose collaboration ensured both the smooth execution and meaningful content of the experience.

The most powerful result wasn’t just seen in smiles or spirited participation – it was in the feedback:

100% of participating students reported an improvement in their understanding of circular economy principles.

This insight confirmed the power of interactive education in helping young people move from abstract awareness to concrete understanding.

Learning didn’t come without recognition. Top performers in the game were awarded notebooks, pens, and keychains, reminders of a day where knowledge and fun went hand-in-hand.

What’s Next?

This event is just the beginning. One Circle is committed to building a culture where sustainability is not just taught, but lived, starting with the classrooms of today to shape the decision-makers of tomorrow.

About the “One Circle” pilot in Egypt:

The pilot “One Circle”, part of the global “Switch to Circular Economy Value Chains” project, targets the ICT and electronics value chain in Egypt. Its ambition is to create a broad alliance of partners – local SMEs and multinationals – committed to transforming ICT and electronics towards a more responsible development model, for the benefit of society as a whole. Led by UNIDO, Orange, Nokia, and Cordon, and supported on the ground by e-TADWEER and Haya Karima Foundation, the initiative focuses on supporting the adoption of circular economy practices, building local infrastructure to extend the life of ICT and electronics, and creating local capacity-building opportunities for sustainable change.

About SWITCH2CE:

The global Switch to Circular Economy Value Chains (SWITCH2CE) project is an initiative that assists EU multinational companies and their suppliers from developing countries to switch to more circular economy approaches and practices in three selected value chains: Plastic Packaging, Textile & Garments, and ICT and Electronics. The overall objective is to support the “Transformation towards a circular economy”, including to contribute to sustainable growth, low carbon and climate resilient development, decent jobs creation, and safer, healthier, and pollution-free environment.

SWITCH2CE is co-funded by the European Union and the Government of Finland, and implemented by UNIDO, in collaboration with Chatham House, Circle Economy, and the European Investment Bank. Learn more at: www.switchtocircular.eu
